FOSS4G-NA to be Held April 10-12, 2012 in Washington D.C.
(January 23, 2012) OSGeo North America is pleased to announce the Free and Open Source Software for Geospatial - North America (FOSS4G-NA) conference to be held from April 10 to 12, 2012 at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center in Washington DC with confirmed keynote speaker Michael Byrne, CIO of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
In light of the success of last September’s international FOSS4G conference in Denver, Colorado, the newly-formed North America chapter of OSGeo, a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to support and promote the collaborative development of open geospatial technologies and data, seized upon the opportunity to organize a regional follow-up conference focusing on the North American open source geospatial community. “2011’s event showed us that there is great interest in the region to continue the conversation and strengthen the network of individuals and organizations working the open source geospatial field,” said Paul Ramsey, accomplished geospatial software developer and FOSS4G- NA 2012 conference chair. “Washington DC is an accessible and very exciting place to hold this conference, especially with government agencies continuing to open up to open source.”
The conference will be organized around three tracks: open source technology best practices and tips; deployment case studies; and emerging ideas and trends in open source, and the organizers have published a call for abstracts athttp://foss4g-na.org/abstract-submission/ .
