Orange Water and Sewer Authority Experience Increased Efficiencies with Cityworks/I.T.pipes Integration - Integration Provides TV Inspection Crews Effective Field Solution

Sandy, UT– Orange Water and Sewer Authority of Carrboro, North Carolina, has found an effective field solution for CCTV inspection crews using I.T.pipes software and Cityworks, the leading GIS-centric management solution. OWASA has experienced substantial increases in efficiencies, decreased data entry mistakes, faster work order completion, and easier reporting.

OWASA is a public, nonprofit agency providing water, sewer, and reclaimed water to the towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill, North Carolina. Prior their usage of the I.T.pipes/Cityworks integration, OWASA’s sewer inspection crews had paper maps and a standalone PC in the inspection truck. At the end of the day, they would burn data to CD’s to take to the office, which was a time-consuming, error-prone process with no central repository for inspection data and no integration with Cityworks or GIS.

With the new, integrated system, crews utilize Cityworks Desktop, ArcGIS, and I.T.pipes software (itpipes.com) on Panasonic Toughbooks to perform inspections. Video, snapshots, and observations are recorded in the I.T.pipes inspection software and stored on the Toughbook local hard drive. And now, when crews return to the office, they generate work orders for inspections performed, and automatically synchronize CCTV inspection data with Cityworks.

The efficiencies and process automation of the new sewer inspection workflow has resulted in more CCTV inspections being performed with instant access to inspection data and scheduling repairs. As a result, OWASA can now focus on preventive maintenance and identifying areas for potential sewer rehab projects.

“Our new workflow utilizing Cityworks in the field with I.T.pipes has dramatically increased efficiency, decreased data entry mistakes, and allowed for faster work order completion and reporting,” stated Beth Canada, GIS Coordinator, OWASA. “The use of Cityworks in the field has resulted in a paperless system, allowing field crews to create and complete work orders while on-site. Crew leaders can more effectively plan their days by viewing work order locations on a map and assign resources needed. Work order data entry is faster and more complete, resulting in more efficient and timely reporting.”

“Cityworks is built to deliver results in the office and in the field,” stated Brian Haslam, President of Cityworks. “The type of efficiency gains and time-saving measures OWASA has experienced are exactly what we expect for our users, and extending Cityworks’ capabilities through integrations with leading systems like I.T.pipes takes it that much further. Cityworks enables field workers and delivers unparalleled results time and time again.”
