Norman, OK, August 25, 2011- New, exclusive Weather Decision Technologies (WDT) live streaming from the National Hurricane Center (NHC) will appear in over 600 media company iMap maps this week, starting Thursday morning.
The National Hurricane Center begins live on-camera briefings at 6am EDT on Thursday, August 25th. These briefings will appear within all iMap weather maps.
WDT has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement with the NHC that allows us to provide this video feed, and we are the only company providing such a feed.
The live streams feature an animated in-map notifier alerting users to a live feed, and they can click to “Watch Now.” The video uses the same exclusive technology pioneered by WDT for its Tracker storm-chasing network.
NHC video can also be accessed through the iMapTracker content layer, along with live video from chasers we expect to be in the area of a affected storm areas.
Scheduling info:
Video briefings will begin at the top of each hour (00:00) when there is a landfalling event expected to impact the US.
There are no 4AM, 10AM, 4PM, 10PM EDT briefings.
Unless there is an overnight landfall, the last briefing will happen at 9PM EDT, possibly 11PM EDT. Briefings will resume at 5 or 6 AM EDT the following morning.
The video broadcast system will be powered up 60 seconds prior to the beginning of the transmission, and power will be disconnected at the end of the briefing as soon as the audio feed is cut.
In the event there is an unscheduled briefing, for Katrina-like events, WDT will be given a 15 minute heads-up. These briefings would typically be at 10:45AM or 4:45PM EDT.
Users of WDT's iMap may view briefings up to four hours after the live transmission
