Advanced Technology Will Support City of Greensboro’s Comprehensive Geocentric Water Infrastructure Management

Broomfield, Colorado USA, May 31, 2011 — Innovyze, a leading global innovator of wet infrastructure modeling and simulation software and technologies, today announced that the City of Greensboro, NC, has chosen the company’s industry-leading InfoWater Suite to replace its existing water distribution modeling and design solution. The purchase equips Greensboro with a full range of high-performance ArcGIS-centric (Esri, Redlands, CA) water infrastructure analysis and management capabilities to address distribution system capacity and ability to transport water to customers as the City grows.

Recipient of 2008 US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 4 Safe Drinking Water Act Excellence Award for large surface water public water supply systems, the City of Greensboro operates a moderately complicated water transmission and distribution system with two water plants and four pressure zones. The City’s plants treat and deliver an average of about 33 million gallons of water per day to more than 269,000 residents.

“Innovyze InfoWater Suite gives us the advanced network modeling tools we need to produce a comprehensive master planning and modeling study for our distribution system,” said Brian Boyd, Water Engineering Specialist for the City’s Department of Water Resources. “Our primary mission is to ensure that all our customers have a safe and plentiful water supply, both in the immediate future and over the long term. InfoWater is a key element in helping us optimize capital planning in ways that further those goals.”

The innovative network modeling technology of InfoWater Suite addresses every facet of utility infrastructure management, optimization and protection — delivering the highest rate of return in the industry. Built atop ArcGIS and drawing on the most advanced numerical computation and object-component geospatial technologies, it effortlessly reads GIS datasets; corrects network topology problems and data flaws; extracts pertinent modeling information; and automatically constructs, skeletonizes, loads, calibrates and generates optimized solutions with astounding speed. The result is performance modeling that sets new levels of scalability, reliability, functionality and flexibility within the powerful ArcGIS environment. Using these advanced tools, utilities can easily simulate and evaluate various conditions, pinpoint system deficiencies, and determine the most cost-effective improvements to achieve optimum performance and regulatory compliance, and meet new security challenges.

“To develop a reliable, comprehensive and cost-effective geospatial water master plan, engineers and GIS professionals must be equipped with the very best tools — tools that allow continuous collaboration and data sharing,” said Paul F. Boulos, Ph.D., Hon.D.WRE, F.ASCE, President and COO of Innovyze. “Our goal is to create intuitive, high-performing software with seamless GIS integration. We focus on removing obstacles and letting our customers quickly and reliably develop optimized improvement solutions, the kind that have the power to change an entire industry. City of Greensboro’s adoption of InfoWater Suite represents an investment in many more decades of engineering excellence. Innovyze is proud to participate in the City’s success.”
