Google My Maps iPhone App - The Cartographer - Best Travel App Finalist  E-mail
Written by A Tasty Pixel
15 January 2011

Melbourne, Australia - Since its November release, The Cartographer, featuring antique cartography styling, custom Google My Maps viewing and editing, and offline map features, has been highly successful.

Featured recently on the iPhone App Store's "What's Hot" and "New and Noteworthy" sections, and recently nominated for Best Travel App in the Best App Ever competition, the app has been hailed as an essential traveler's utility.

Praised for a unique and polished user interface backed by solid, useful features, The Cartographer has been well received by the design and developer community. Technical innovation news firm VentureBeat recently wrote, "It's one of those rare apps that make you sit up and take notice at first, thanks to its unique design and emphasis on usability, but remains consistently useful by delivering features you'll use often."

The Cartographer's recent nomination for Best Travel App represents the latest endorsement from the travel community, who have greeted the app with enthusiasm. Keith Savage of leading travel blog Traveling Savage said, "The Cartographer is a worthy addition to the traveler's app arsenal. It's beautiful and provides a unique feature set."

The Cartographer tightly integrates with Google My Maps: tools that allow users to customize Google maps with markers. Developer "A Tasty Pixel" recently introduced additional support for importing maps created in Google Earth, Google's desktop-based virtual globe application. Users of The Cartographer can do all their travel planning on the desktop, and the resulting maps with accompanying notes can be effortlessly accessed and edited on the iPhone.

The Cartographer's sophisticated offline map features allow users to access their customised maps offline, an essential component for leisure and business travelers alike. The iPhone app offers users the ability to:

Plan Trips:
* Plan trips on the desktop by plotting vacation ideas or errand details on Google My Maps

Execute Trips:
* Sync Google My Maps with the iPhone
* Avoid data and roaming charges with offline maps

Record Trip Information:
* Drop markers as you travel to remember your adventures

Share Trip Information:
* Share your trip with friends and family via email and Twitter

Version 1.2 of The Cartographer, now available on the iPhone App Store, introduces new navigation features. Support for mobile navigation app Navigon provides turn-by-turn navigation to saved placemarks, and the new in-app compass feature offers distance and bearing information, ideal for hiking and other outdoor applications.

Also introduced with Version 1.2 is The Cartographer Clipper, a free desktop-based web browser add-on that allows users to record information from any web page to Google My Maps, with automatic address discovery.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 3.1 or later

The Cartographer runs on the iPad and iPod touch, but it is not specifically designed for these devices. Pseudo-GPS positioning is available only near some wifi spots. Similarly, positioning on the first generation iPhone is limited to cellular and wifi.

Pricing and Availability:
Currently on sale at $1.99 (USD), The Cartographer is available exclusively through the iPhone App Store in the Travel category.

Founded in 2007 and presently based in a motorhome roaming around Europe, A Tasty Pixel's mission is to create delectable apps for iPhone, iPad and Mac. With its launch of The Cartographer, the company now has three iPhone apps in the App Store. A Tasty Pixel has demonstrated a commitment to and earned a reputation for creating high quality apps with exquisite design and user interface effects. Copyright (C) 2011 A Tasty Pixel.
