Stennis Space Center, MS – The Enterprise for Innovative Geospatial Solutions (EIGS), a cluster of programs and companies working to further develop the geospatial industry in Mississippi, today announced that member company Concurrent Technologies Corporation (CTC), in its role as an applied research and development organization, investigated various methodologies to meet Marine Corps requirements for quickly identifying readiness problems with a goal of finding the root cause within 10 seconds as compared to hours and sometimes days. As a result of CTC’s problem-solving work, the U.S. Marine Corps Equipment Readiness Information Tool (MERIT) project has been selected as a recipient of the Department of the Navy's eGovernment Award. CTC, in partnership with the U.S. Marine Corps, developed this unique visualization approach to displaying logistics equipment readiness information.
MERIT is the first of its kind equipment readiness management tool developed by capitalizing on existing Marine Corps efforts. The powerful, web-enabled tool graphically depicts current readiness posture and detailed supply and maintenance information. The web-based MERIT application provides real-time readiness information for ground equipment world wide. It provides detailed logistics and supply information from a variety of sources.
“The MERIT development team, composed of personnel from the Marine Corps and CTC, has worked tirelessly on this project over the last two years,” stated Gerald Nuss of Concurrent Technologies Corporation. The CTC office at Stennis Space Center played a key role in this effort, having designed and built the data visualization and analysis interface.
The Department of Navy eGovernment Awards Program honors project teams that have successfully reengineered and transformed key business and warfighting processes to reduce costs, improve mission performance and support the effective exchange and sharing of information. This award is sponsored by the Navy Chief Information Officer (CIO) and was presented to the US Marine Corps Logistics Command and six other recipients on June 9, 2004, at the Navy IT Summit in Washington, DC.
