Media Project Harris Technologist Creates Opening Animation for Digital Mapping Education
Program
NEW ORLEANS, Nov. 1, 2010 -- (GEOINT, Booth #757) – Penn State Public Broadcasting (PSPB) has successfully launched its Geospatial Revolution Project, thanks in part to the support of Harris Corporation (NYSE: HRS). As a major supporter of the educational project, Harris provided funding and contributed the animation skills of one of its technicians. The announcement was made during GEOINT 2010, being held November 1-4 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans.
Rob Lowe, geospatial technician at Harris, created the "cosmic zoom" animation for the opening segment of the web-based video series that sends viewers diving from space, through the Earth's atmosphere and down to street level. The goal of the program is to help educate the public about the creative applications of digital mapping and how it is changing the way we think, behave and interact. The series discusses the benefits of this proliferating technology, as well as related security and privacy issues.
"Harris has been at the forefront of geospatial technology for more than 25 years," said Mark Luttrell, vice president, Mission Information Systems, Harris Government Communications Systems. "The Geospatial Revolution Project offers the public insight into the world of geospatial technology and how it affects everyone."
The project includes a series of video episodes, an outreach initiative in collaboration with educational partners, downloadable reference materials and DVDs. Episodes 1 and 2, as well as more information about the project are available at: http://geospatialrevolution.psu.edu/. Episodes 1 and 2 will also be playing in the GEOINT Tech Talks Theater throughout the conference.
