SANBORN SELECTED BY FLORIDA DEPARTMENT OF REVENUE TO DELIVER DIGITAL ORTHOPHOTOGRAPHY  E-mail
Written by Sanborn
22 June 2004
Colorado Springs, Colo., June 22, 2004—Sanborn CEO John Copple today announced that the company was chosen by the Florida Department of Revenue to provide digital color orthophotos for DeSoto and Hardee counties.

Ranked first among eleven firms to be awarded a five-year contract to provide this service, Sanborn, a geographic information system (GIS) and photogrammetric services industry leader, will deliver the digital color orthophoto images to support Florida DOR’s statewide aerial photography program for all the state’s counties.

This project marks the first time the Department of Revenue has required digital orthophotos.  The Florida DOR is currently developing a unified ESRI geodatabase for parcel mapping done through Property Appraiser’s offices. By moving to a geo-referenced Sanborn ortho product, the state will benefit by having a statewide image within a GIS that will support and increase base map accuracy for tax assessment purposes.

Gary Eaton, vice president and general manager of Sanborn’s Charlotte office, remarked, “Sanborn is proud to be a part of Florida’s aggressive move into the geospatial world. The uniqueness of the project makes it an exciting one to work on.”

With a rich tradition of mapping dating back to 1866, Sanborn offers end-to-end spatial solutions to GIS and photogrammetric mapping customers. The company’s combined product and service offerings include consulting, off-the-shelf products, analog, digital and lidar data acquisition, photogrammetric mapping, and data conversion. Sanborn offers product solutions for government and commercial customers. A nationally recognized company, Sanborn has multiple offices within the United States.
