3D Street Level Imagery Company Provides Data and Software Platform for New ‘UrbanDive’ Initiative
BERKELEY, CA ─ June 30th, 2010 ─ earthmine today announced that PagesJaunes Groupe, the leader in France in local advertising and information, has engaged the Berkeley-based 3D street level imagery company in building an innovative, open, and immersive 3D platform for local search. Through PagesJaunes’ UrbanDive, users will explore the urban environment through immersive, panoramic views, find places, connect with brands and build and share unique experiences. In partnership with PagesJaunes, earthmine is currently collecting 3D street-level imagery of 150 major cities. The earthmine mapping system employs a unique stereo panoramic camera array to collect high quality and resolution imagery with corresponding latitude, longitude and elevation data points for each pixel in every image. With earthmine’s Server software, API and flexible set of client SDKs, developers can build applications that can be deployed on a variety of web, desktop or mobile platforms. UrbanDive will enable users to not only navigate their cities but also interactively create and share content with the community. The project represents a new generation of media for the PagesJaunes Group, providing an unprecedented platform for users to keep in touch with their geographic and social environments. Users will be ‘urban pioneers,’ sharing favorite places and experiences with friends, easily using geo-located services and obtaining real-time information. PagesJaunes plans to launch a beta version of UrbanDive in late 2010 on fixed Internet and mobile devices such as the iPad and iPhone. The service will initially cover the cities of Paris and Marseille, extending to over 150 French cities in 2011.
