Cadcorp ESRI ArcSDE, ESRI Personal Geodatabase, Intergraph GeoMedia Access Warehouse Support  E-mail
Written by Cadcorp
16 June 2004
Cadcorp, the developer of the popular Cadcorp SIS – Spatial Information System digital mapping and GIS software suite is pleased to announce even wider support for spatial data formats supplied by ESRI and Intergraph.

The Cadcorp SIS product suite is now able to read ESRI ArcSDE Binary Geometry stored in Oracle, ESRI Personal Geodatabases and Intergraph GeoMedia Access Warehouses, building significantly on the existing database access that Cadcorp SIS users enjoy out-of-the-box.

In the case of ESRI data types, Cadcorp users can now access most vector, raster and database-based formats proprietary to ESRI software without recourse to middleware. In summary, these now include ESRI Shape files, Personal Geodatabases, ArcSDE, ARC/INFO Export (ASCII), ARC/INFO DTM, BIL, BIP, BSQ, ARC/INFO Binary Grid and ARC/INFO ASCII GRID.

Cadcorp SIS already reads over 100 different data sources in their native form using Cadcorp developed “plug-in” data sources. These new readers are exactly the same and this means that because they easily slot into the software, they can be developed, updated and enhanced without affecting the core Cadcorp SIS code.

Martin Daly, Technical Director, Cadcorp explained: “As part of Cadcorp's ongoing policy of opening up the widest possible range of data sources to our users, we are pleased to add these three database-based options.  Cadcorp SIS is often used for managing disparate datasets in data formats from legacy systems, and these three will be no exception.  By simply dropping these new Plug-in DLL-s into their existing Cadcorp SIS installation, our users will be able to view and extract data from their existing systems.  None of these Plug-ins requires any software from our competitors.  In particular, the ESRI ArcSDE Plug-in goes straight to the underlying Oracle database, removing the need for ESRI ArcSDE altogether."
