Elvin and Gareth from Maptel (http://maptel.com.au), developers of ArcPad, have been kind enough to offer up their input for another installment of our fun, ESRIUC Top 10 things to do.
The guys share their Top 7 things for attendees interested in ArcPad (and Esri mobile solutions) to do - I've rounded out the list with my own 3 suggestions to create this Top 10 List for ArcPad enthusiasts... enjoy!
1. Very Spatial
Elvin (who is now the answer to a quiz question) is the longest running participant with Very Spatial and will be talking with them once more about ArcPad 10 and no doubt all sorts of sci fi things, because the Tricorder sparked the love of tech for so many people.
2. Focus on Customers
With the release of ArcPad 10 comes new and exciting features, but it also gives the ArcPad team a chance to mingle and experience what customers have been doing with the product. A focus group has been set up to talk to people about their needs and wants of the product for now and the future! If you're interested in attending please email Kerry Somerville - ArcPad Product Manager.
3. Hands on fun
If you think you can do a better job on the presentations than some of the ArcPad team, then come along to the Mobile Island and try them yourself. It doesn't matter if you have never used the product, there will be scripts to help you along the way so even if you have never used ArcPad you'll be an expert in minutes!
4. Tech presentations and demos
If you're good enough at learning the scirpts then we might just get you to present for us! Just kidding, this is your opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the corridors and exhibition halls and sit down, relax and bask in the dulcet tones of the ArcPad Team while they discuss the features and some pragmatic practices (we can't say "best" because it might not fit your workflow) of using ArcPad in the field. We have sessions running every day of the UC
5. Get Outside(TBC)
FIeld GIS is about being outdoors, right? So let's enjoy the sunshine that San DIego has to offer. The Mobile GIS group will be running showcases of products and devices around the Exhibition center to demonstrate the capabilities of data collection and editing.
6. Badges are SOOO last year
Around the UC you will see a few very lucky participants with the coveted ArcPad Hi-visibilty safety jacket. We can't say what you need to do to deserve one of this seasons' highly desired couture, but if you play your cards right it could be you! Remember, Neon orange is the new black.
7. Talk and engage
Finally, we just want to hear from you. We hope that thoughout the conference you take an opportunity (or many) to find us and talk to us whether you are an existing customer or you are just interested in what field GIS could potentially do for you and your organisation.

8. Seeing mobile technology on the exhibition hall floor. Seeing, touching, and testing is one of the coolest things you can do on the exhibition hall floor. A number of ESRI solution providers, business partners, and VARs will also be showing off the latest hardware and rugged mobile devices that run ArcPad and mobile GIS apps. Check out Javad GNSS, Trimble, Ashtech, and others on the floor and see what they have!
9. Seeing Devs that are building on ArcPad and ArcGIS Mobile. One name that comes to mind is Freeance/TDC Group. If you're interested in ArcGIS Mobile on the Blackberry then you need to meet these guys! Their new Software Lets BlackBerry Smartphone Users Edit ArcGIS Server 10 Maps On The Go.
Freeance Mobile 5.0 is the new application for map digitizing on BlackBerry, enabling true on-device editing of map data.
10. Fitting for #10... learning about ArcPad 10. ESRI's mobile, enterprise solutions have really matured. A number of sessions will be provided to inform us about ArcPad 10. Meeting up with key Esri team members like Tom Patterson and hearing what they are doing with ArcPad is also a must... and a treat!
