SkyWave Introduces Flex Messaging to IsatM2M Satellite Service  E-mail
Written by SkyWave
03 June 2010
Longer messages designed to address growing data communication needs in the M2M space.

Ottawa, Canada – June 3, 2010 SkyWave Mobile Communications (“SkyWave”), a global provider of two-way satellite products and services, is pleased to announce the addition of Flex messaging to its global IsatM2M satellite service. Flex messaging will enable longer data communication transactions for security, logistics and SCADA applications at a price critical for large scale deployments.

Flex messaging is an enhancement to the IsatM2M service that will allow SkyWave customers to send up to seven times more data than traditional IsatM2M messages. Compatible with SkyWave’s popular DMR-800 series of satellite communication terminals and SureLinx series of dual-mode satellite/GPRS communication terminals, Flex messaging is designed to meet the needs of SkyWave customers currently providing asset tracking, monitoring and security services.

“Flex messaging is a much-demanded extension of our low-cost, low latency and reliable IsatM2M service” says David Sward, VP of Marketing and Business Development at SkyWave. “This new messaging provides our customers the flexibility to send both short messages, such as GPS position information, as well as longer SMS-like text messages.”

IsatM2M is a low-cost, global Inmarsat-based satellite communication service that is specifically designed for machine-to-machine (M2M) applications. IsatM2M is a critical communications component used for many remote monitoring applications such as tracking and security of trucks, ships and containers as well as monitoring of fixed assets such as oil & gas and water monitoring equipment.

The M2M space is experiencing continued growth as more companies are implementing remote tracking and monitoring services in order to improve security, decrease costs, and generate new revenue. Flex messaging is a fully acknowledged service that will allow SkyWave customers to send up to 192 bytes of data and enhance their service capability in this growing market.

Flex messaging on IsatM2M satellite service is only available through SkyWave Mobile Communications.
