JMap is an open solution for publishing interactive spatial applications over enterprise, public, and mobile networks. JMap allows users of the client/server solution to work offline with local data, pool requests to the server, and send these requests when the connection is established
JMap is a three-tiered client/server solution consisting of:
a server application called JMapServer,
a Web-based administrator system called JMapWebAdmin,
access modules to various spatial data sources,
access modules to various relational database management systems,
graphical clients connecting to the server through a Web Server,
optionally, business-oriented Extensions, that are plug-and-play modules tied to JMapServer,
optionally, custom-defined extensions and integration modules toward third party applications.
JMap can access the most common vector and raster formats of the GIS industry. As of today, the following formats are read natively by JMap.
Significant improvements in JMap at version 2.6 include:
an automated export function of JMap reports toward spreadsheet applications,
the ability to print on multiple formats, including broad sheets up to A0,
the free rotation of the maps on screen and in print,
a direct link between JMap and corporate LDAP servers,
binding of spatial objects with external database attributes,
and JMap layer creation based on multiple GIS files.
