Spotlight - GORequest for iPhone the Government outreach mobile app  E-mail
Written by @GISuser
17 March 2010

GORequest for iPhone the Government outreach mobile app enables citizens to communicate with local governments and report items of concern… Nice!

About the app…

See a pothole that needs filling? Barking dog driving you crazy? Graffiti making a mess of your neighborhood? Tap right into your city and report the issue fast with GORequest for the iPhone! Just open the app, select your issue, and take a picture - the app knows the location and who can fix it for you. No more time-consuming trips or phone calls.

This application takes crowd-sourcing to a new level and is particularly interesting as there’s a number of local government agencies that are taking part. Users begin by setting their local area, for example, some of the local governments that are participating include: Anaheim, CA, Arvada, CO, Queen creek AZ, Thornton, Co and many others. Once the user has established which agency they wish to report to they then can use the application to geolocate and report an issue or concern. For example, report some graffiti. the post is geolocated with the user’s location and then he can optionally provide additional information like a photo, comments, and contact information.

A pre-defined set of choices for issues to report is provided. Options include:

  • accidental spill
  • road kill
  • graffiti
  • parking issue
  • potholes
  • snow and ice issues
  • street lights
  • trash

GOrequest is available from the iTunes store… hopefully versions supporting Andoid and Blackberry may appear in the future.
