Are you into any of the following: collaboration, openness, community, accessibility, sustainability?? If so then Coworking may be of interest to you.
Developers, writers, bloggers, journalists, social media mavens, geeks and pretty much anyone who works full or part-time from a home-based office environment or coffee shop is likely to be interested in the idea of coworking. Imagine, rather than hiding away in your dark basement or trying to get some productive time in at a noisy coffee shop you could have a much more enjoyable and productive time coworking. The real kicker here is that while doing so you'll be hangingout with other like-minded people... and you never know what kind of personal or business connection you'll make.
Are you a business owner/operator with some extra office space? Think about turning your spare office space into a coworking retreat. By doing so you'll immediately have access to professionals offering a variety of skills... you'll likely attract bloggers, PR people, marketing types, developers, and other techno-phobes. I'd have to think that if you circulated details of your coworking office within your contacts that you'll likely attract contractors and sub-contractors from within your industry... what better way to have access to a labor pool? For those of you interested in this, http://www.coworking.com/ is a great place to start as is the Coworking wiki at http://wiki.coworking.info/ the wiki is a fabulous resource to introduce you to coworking either as a worker or perhaps as a space owner. The wiki offers up an introduction to coworking as well as details of how to set up agreements, where to locate coworking establishments near you, how to create grteen coworking, coworking on the twittersphere and more. the wiki has a dedicated space specifically for space owners, check it out at http://wiki.coworking.info/SpaceOwner and if this idea interest you at all, I suggest you check out a coworking establishment near you to see exactly how it works.
Angel Kwiatowski (Twitter @CohereLLC) of Fort Collins, Colorado has recently setup a coworking establishment in the city, see http://fccoworking.tumblr.com/. She also recently took part in the cool, Ignite Fort Collins (@IgniteFC) event, part of Global Ignite week organized by O'reilly Media (see #GIW on twitter). Angel gave a fab 5 minute intro to coworking as her presentation, check it out (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNuO6jfttTM) and be sure to give it some thought... heck, imagine some Geo Technologists creating a shared workplace what attracted Geo developers, bloggers, social media experts, mobile developers, writers, etc... you'd have immediate access to some talent that may prove to be very useful... you'll also likely make a few new friends as well!
