CalAmp dealers to begin selling the ultimate consumer vehicle protection service under co-marketing agreement with MOC Products
OXNARD, Calif., (November 17, 2009) - CalAmp Corp. (NASDAQ: CAMP), a leading provider of wireless products, services and solutions, has launched the Ecotracr GPS-based tracking and stolen vehicle recovery (SVR) system for consumers, in conjunction with MOC Products Company, Inc., of Pacoima, CA.
Originally developed by CalAmp exclusively for MOC Products, the Ecotrac SVR system was previously available only through MOC sales channels. The co-marketing agreement expands distribution of this consumer vehicle tracking and protection service to include CalAmp's network of agents and dealers.
Based on the same robust CalAmp tracking solution currently used by leading vehicle finance companies, the Ecotrac SVR system is targeting owners of new and used cars, trucks and recreational vehicles in an effort to reduce the number of vehicles stolen each year in the United States. With its blend of user-programmable features, the Ecotrac protection system offers end-users a variety of benefits beyond SVR, including personal/teen car tracking, and law enforcement and public works vehicle dispatch, among others.
Ecotrac is built around CalAmp's super-sensitive GPS satellite tracking technology, nationwide GSM cellular modem and user-friendly web-based application software. The innovative consumer SVR and vehicle protection system can pinpoint the location of autos and other mobile assets wherever they may be - on the road, in a garage or in a parking structure.
The "always on" Ecotrac hardware communicates via the GSM wireless data network across North America. Users view the location of their vehicle on a password-protected, secure website where special software features allow them to monitor and control the status of the vehicle, and even initiate recovery via professional law enforcement if it is stolen.
Ecotrac's web-based application software allows users to:
View vehicle location online at any time on street-level digital maps and satellite views - details include direction, street address and speed
Create speed, movement and "geo-fence" limits on how and where a vehicle is driven, and receive exception alerts when breaches occur
Remotely control vehicle door locks and starter-interrupt to disable/enable the vehicle
Establish or change settings by phone or online
Receive notifications via email, text message or phone whenever an alert is triggered
Schedule future actions with an easy-to-use scheduling feature
Program and upgrade the Ecotrac hardware over-the-air
Enjoy tamper-proof performance thanks to an unobtrusive internal antenna design
The sale price will include all hardware, system activation and pre-packaged cellular airtime required for system usage. Renewal plans and additional airtime can be purchased online when needed.
According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, in 2007, more than 4,200 teens in the United States aged 15-19 were killed and almost 400,000 were treated in emergency departments for injuries suffered in motor-vehicle crashes.
"CalAmp is committed to making Ecotrac available to as many consumers as possible. The vehicle finance industry has relied on CalAmp technology to track and recover vehicles for years. It's time we made that same high-tech security available to individuals and families," said Mike Zachan, CalAmp Aercept Division vice president and general manager.
Whether protecting an owner's new car investment or safeguarding a teen driver on a Saturday night, CalAmp's Ecotrac offers consumers the peace of mind knowing where their vehicle is and when it's on the move.
