FortiusOne Announces Distinguished Additions to Board of Advisors PDF Print E-mail
Written by FortiusOne
04 November 2009

Geospatial Industry Veteran, Peter Batty and US Intelligence Expert, Jeff Harris Bring Unparalleled Expertise to FortiusOne's Advisory Board

Arlington, VA - November 4, 2009- FortiusOne, the leading provider of rich, dynamic Visual Intelligence, today announced the addition of two advisory board members, Peter Batty, Founder and President of Spatial Networking, and Jeff Harris, Corporate Vice President and Managing Director, Lockheed Martin Corporation. Initial advisory board members include Michael Frankel, SVP of LexisNexis and Wolf Ruzicka, CEO of EastBanc Technologies. FortiusOne's Board of Advisors applies their expertise and broad spectrum of experience in order to help drive FortiusOne's technology solutions further into enterprise and government markets.

"The expertise that Peter and Jeff bring to FortiusOne directly complements the duality of FortiusOne's technology," said Sean Gorman, CEO and Founder of FortiusOne. "In their respective careers, both have very successfully bridged government and commercial technologies, enabling value to be transferred across both markets. Their backgrounds align exactly with the mission of our GeoIQ platform; to bring the value of geospatial intelligence and capabilities to non-technical users across both government and commercial industries."

Peter Batty has been CTO of three leading companies in the geospatial industry, including two of the world's top 200 software companies. He began working with geospatial software at IBM in the UK over 20 years ago, and moved to Smallworld in 1992. Mr. Batty played a leading role in helping them become the global market leader in GIS for utilities and communications with revenues of over $100m. GE acquired Smallworld in 2000, and in 2002 Peter left to co-found Ten Sails, now Ubisense, a leader in precision real-time location tracking. From 2005 to 2007 he was CTO at Intergraph, one of the top two geospatial software companies with revenues of over $600m.

Currently he is founder of Spatial Networking, where he is working on applications involving location and social networking. He is also Chief Technology Advisor at Enspiria Solutions and on the Advisory Board of PublicEarth, and he recently consulted with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation regarding the use of geospatial technology in Africa.

"I have followed the development of FortiusOne with great interest for several years," said Mr. Batty. "I am a huge proponent of their philosophy of de-mystifying geospatial analysis and making it accessible to a much broader audience of non-specialists. I look forward to working with their dynamic team." Jeff Harris, Corporate Vice President and Managing Director, Lockheed Martin Corporation, has contributed to US national security in both Government and Industry for 34 years where he has fostered new technologies, programs and capabilities that have contributed significantly to US national security capabilities.

At Lockheed Martin, Mr. Harris leads the Corporation's efforts for Situational Awareness capabilities. He has also served as President of Lockheed Martin Missiles and Space and President of Lockheed Martin Special Programs. Additionally, he served as President of Space Imaging, the first company to commercially provide high-resolution satellite imagery and information products of the Earth for cost-effective solutions to today's global business needs.

Before entering the private sector, Mr. Harris served with distinction in senior national leadership positions, including Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Space; Director, National Reconnaissance Office, and Associate Executive Director of the Intelligence Community Management Staff. In all of these capacities, he provided direct support to both the Secretary of Defense and the Director of Central Intelligence. Mr. Harris began his career with the Central Intelligence Agency as a photo technologist at the National Photographic Interpretation Center. In 1978, he joined the CIA Office of Development and Engineering's satellite development programs.

Mr. Harris has received numerous awards, most notably the National Intelligence Distinguished Service Medal, the CIA Distinguished Service Medal, the NRO Medal for Distinguished Service, the US GeoSpatial Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award, Aviation Week Laureate Citation and the James V. Hartinger Award for military space achievement.

"Leveraging bi-directional geospatial information is critical for better understanding of the human terrain in support of dismounted soldiers," said Mr. Harris. "FortiusOne is creating next generation situational awareness that combines dynamic data mining and aggregation as well as social collaboration capabilities. This unique combination allows operators and decision makers to keep up with rapidly changing environments by incorporating information from all levels."
