IDRISI: The Kilimanjaro Edition  E-mail
Written by IDRISI
02 June 2004
IDRISI, developed by Clark Labs, is an innovative and functional geographic modeling technology that enables and supports environmental decision making for the real world. With the introduction of IDRISI Kilimanjaro, we reaffirm our commitment to providing affordable access to the frontiers of spatial analysis and to advancing our role as an educational and research institution dedicated to geographic inquiry and understanding.

IDRISI Kilimanjaro provides full map composition capabilities, including multiple raster and vector layers, layer blending, interactive RGB compositing, multiple legends, title, text labels, grid, north arrow, scale bar, text and image insets. This image depicts the White Mountain region in New Hampshire, USA, including data for elevation, roads, and boundaries using various layer blending options.

Special facilities are included for environmental modeling and natural resource management, including change and time series analysis, land change prediction, multi-criteria and multi-objective decision support, uncertainty analysis and simulation modeling. TIN interpolation, Kriging and conditional simulation are also offered. For Image Processing, a complete suite of tools is available for restoration, enhancement and transformation, and for signature development and classification, including hard and soft classifiers and hyperspectral image classification. In addition, IDRISI Kilimanjaro is 100% COM-Compliant, allowing programmers and modelers to incorporate IDRISI routines into their own applications.

Point, line, polygon and raster palette symbol files are all created within Symbol Workshop. The blend function makes it easy to create smoothly-transitioning quantitative symbol files.

So, what kinds of things can you accomplish with IDRISI?

  • on- the- fly 24-bit compositing
  • interactive fly through of DEM images
  • Full support for xBASE, Microsoft Excel and CSV formats for import and export is also available. Database Workshop can now connect to any Microsoft OLE database provider, such as SQL Server or Oracle.
  • import and export of dozens of GIS and Image Processing file formats.
  • wide range of surface generation, interpolation and analysis routines
  • Change Vector Analysis
  • Markov Chain Analysis
  • statistical tools for spatial analysis of raster images, including simple regression, autocorrelation analysis, pattern analysis, trend analysis, logistical regression, and many more
  • Image resampling
  • standard "hard" classifiers, both supervised and unsupervised, as well as a suite of "soft" probabilistic classifiers
  • Unsupervised image classification
  • automatic mosaicing of imagery
  • change and time series analysis
  • Integrate GPS support
  • and much more!
