Wacom's Pen on Screen Input Enhances User Experience and Streamlines Workflow {mosaddphp:mega.php

Vancouver, WA - July 14, 2009 - Wacom®'s interactive pen displays are set to revolutionize the way GIS professionals work, maximizing the recent introduction of new ArcGIS 9.4 features that will leverage the benefits of pen input technology. Wacom's pen display technology will provide ArcGIS 9.4 users with a more streamlined workflow, increased accuracy and enhanced comfort. Wacom is showcasing its DTZ-2100 interactive pen display at the ESRI International User Conference, booth 708, July 13 -17 at the San Diego Convention Center.

"As an ESRI Authorized Business Partner, Wacom works closely with ESRI to ensure that its interactive pen input is an ideal hardware solution for palette-based GeoDesign in ArcGIS 9.4," says Mike Dana, Business Development Manager at Wacom. "With GeoDesign playing an integral part of the ArcGIS 9.4 workflow, Wacom interactive pen display users will enjoy increased comfort and productivity while drawing directly on screen in 2D or 3D."

With Wacom's interactive pen display, GIS professionals use Wacom's patented battery-free pen to work, draw and navigate directly on the monitor's 21.3-inch LCD surface. While ESRI's introduction of feature templates in ArcGIS 9.4 simplifies the editing and design workflow, Wacom pen input further extends natural navigational control, allowing users to create features by drawing directly on screen.

"The capabilities of Wacom's interactive pen display fully support ESRI's goal to streamline, simplify and share in ArcGIS 9.4," says Michael Marcum, Director of Product Management at Wacom. "The convergence of GIS and design is an important long-term trend and advanced pen on screen technology will help users achieve optimal performance and ROI."

Red-lining and reviewing with a Wacom pen broadens access to GIS data across the organization and reduces work cycle times. Since annotation and design changes are directly handwritten onto the digital map, GIS data are always current and risk is minimized. The combination of software feature improvements and Wacom innovations in pen-input dramatically improve the experience for creators and consumers of GIS data.

The efficiencies of an all-digital workflow attracted the Marin Municipal Water District to Wacom's interactive pen display. "Our goal with the Wacom pen display was to eliminate paper from our red-lining process and it works flawlessly," says Gavin McGhie, GIS Coordinator for Marin Municipal Water District. "The old ways of doing things are just too inefficient anymore."

Wacom Interactive Pen Displays

The Wacom DTZ-2100 is an interactive pen display that combines Wacom's proprietary pen input technology with a high performance LCD monitor. With a generous 21.3-inch LCD monitor, the pen display provides a large-screen experience with superior resolution, display quality and advanced features. It combines a high-resolution display and a dynamically adjustable stand that allows the display to be rotated and inclined for optimal viewing and ergonomic comfort. The ability to work directly on source material, along with the pen display's precise cursor control, and programmable ExpressKeysT and Touch Strips, increases productivity and efficiency. Wacom's interactive pen displays can be purchased as part of integrated software/hardware solutions designed to meet the unique needs of specific GIS professionals, or can be purchased directly from Wacom.

About Wacom

Founded in 1983, Wacom®® 's vision to bring people and technology closer together through natural interface technologies has made it the world's leading manufacturer of digital human interface solutions. Wacom revolutionized the nature of digital input when it introduced its family of interactive pen displays, allowing users to work with a pressure-sensitive pen directly on screen. Today, thousands of GIS, design and other professionals count on Wacom interactive pen displays to express their creativity with superior control and comfort.
