Michael Baker Jr., Inc. (Baker), an engineering unit of Michael Baker Corporation (NYSE Alternext US: BKR), is pleased to announce that it has been awarded a 2009 Diamond Honor Award by the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) of Pennsylvania for its innovation and outstanding achievement on the U.S. Census Bureau's Accurate Coordinate Datasets Collection (ACDC) project.
PITTSBURGH-- ACEC-Pennsylvania Diamond Awards are presented annually to recognize the outstanding contributions of Pennsylvania engineering firms for enhancing the social and economic welfare of the Commonwealth and its citizens. Additionally, this project was recognized by ACEC as a National Finalist in its national awards competition.
Under a multi-year contract with the Bureau's Geography Division, Baker provided accurate "ground-control" used by the Bureau in its assessments of its TIGER file database. TIGER is an authoritative source of geospatial information. The ACDC project required the collection of control points throughout the entire United States and U.S. Territories. Baker utilized its GeoLinkr GPS/GIS software for capture and processing of the GPS positions.
Baker's Bob Hanson, senior vice president, geospatial technologies, said, "This project is one of the largest undertakings of its kind and enables the Bureau to conduct accuracy assessments on datasets considered for inclusion into TIGER."
