7 Cool Things Of The - iphone, S60, Blackberry, G1 picks, Twitter app, free GIS data and more  E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham (@gletham)

My 7 Cool Things Of The Day - Schmap GeoTweeter, Sanoodi SMap, Gravity for Twitter, WHERE, Tweet of the day, Twellow, Indiana GIS Data. Continuing on with the tradition, my new collection of 7 Cool things continues (sorry for the delay in continuing with this tradition) and so, enter my 7 Cool things for the day - enjoy!

  1. iPhone App of the day - A double whammy here with this one… Schmap GeoTweeter - for iPhone. iPhone users are in for a real treat with this one… now you can Tweet your location via the Schmap GeoTweeting application. Available from the Apple iStore, Schmap GeoTweet enables users to locate their position and send an update  to their Twitter Followers. I’ve been a huge fan of the Schmap local guides ever since they were in Beta mode a few years ago so this addition is a real treat.. enjoy! See more
  2. Blackberry app of the day - Sanoodi SMap for BlackBerry Storm. This is a free GPS Route, Activity Recording Application, with Twitter. In addition to the new Twitterfied version of SMap, and by user demand, the Sanoodi website will this week add a number of new social features. Groups will give Sanoodi users the ability to create their own groups and invite friends to join, add and share their routes. See More
  3. S60 App of the day - Private Beta-Test of Gravity - a native Twitter client for S60 (v3/v5). The private beta test of “Gravity”, a Twitter client for S60v3 and S60v5 written in native C++, started today. The first release version is scheduled for March, 2009. See more
  4. Google G1 (Android) App of the day - Actually, this application received our LBSzone App of the week honor recently… enter WHERE. Recall, WHERE provides a handy collection of mobile widgets, conveniently packaged to be easily accessible to mobile users - Smartphone (S60), iPhone, and Blackberry users have enjoyed WHERE local search for some time now - I was an early user of WHERE for Symbian S60 (Nokia N95) and swear by it - the app has led me to many fine restaurants from the ball field many times! The application uses Yelp, YellowPages, or Yahoo! data to guide users to such favorite places as Starbucks, Fule stations with the best prices, and many other local stops. WHERE also delivers local news, reviews, movie theatres and much more to users. See more
  5. Tweet of the day - a funny but useful re-tweet from social media evangelist Matt Singley - mattsingleyRT @kevinokeefe: CIA Following Bin Laden on Twitter his twitter usage peaks Monday nights when ‘Gossip Girl’ is on - thanks for the laugh Matt! See more
  6. Twitter Add-on of the day - Say Hello to Twellow. This great app enables you to search for Twitter users by group (like Tech, news, sports) or by keyword. Hits are retuned and you can then easily start following people of interest. this is a great way to locate Twitter users of interest and quickly add lots of followers. Even better, sign up and you can list yourself in up to 10 groups - awesome! this is a must use for corporate Twitterers. See http://www.twellow.com/
  7. Free GIS Data Pick of the day - This tip comes courtesy of Kyle Johnson, GIS Coordinator at Delaware County, Indiana (via our GISuser linkedIn group discussions). Kyle informs me that Indiana has a very active and growing statewide coordinating body, the Indiana Geographic Information Council (see http://www.in.gov/igic/) They work very closely with our Indiana Geological Survey to host statewide GIS data, and are working on incorporating local (County and City) detailed basemap data into a seamless statewide map. An added bonus, the RAMONA GIS inventory is also a good site to start with http://gisinventory.net/ Thanks Kyle!
