ATLANTA, GA (May 18, 2004) — The City Council of Logroño (Ayuntamiento de Logroño) recently purchased GE Energy’s Smallworld Internet Application Server™ (SIAS) software.
Working in conjunction with SGSmap, a GE Energy service partner in Spain, to ensure localized implementation, the agreement included planning and consultancy services. Installation of the Smallworld Internet Application Server software gives Web users more expedient land usage information via the Internet. Users can then use the information to cost effectively plan, design and build new infrastructure, such as homes and factories, and to allocate green space.
Situated in northern Spain, Logroño is the capital of Spain’s La Rioja province and is home to a population of more than 125,617. Previously, PGOU (Plan General de Ordenacion Urbana) information had only been available upon request via CD-ROM at a cost of 60 euros, almost seventy-five dollars US. This unprecedented move by the City Council of Logroño is the first time any governing council in Spain has made this type of information available free of charge.
“Until now, PGOU information was only available on a CD-Rom that was updated and reissued on a yearly basis. Clearly making the information available on the Internet is a much better option for all concerned,” said Logroño council member, Mar San Martin.
“We are always excited to have this opportunity to provide software technology that improves our customers’ ability to provide timely and useful information to their local population,” said Ricardo Artigas, president, energy services for GE Energy.
