ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- Australia's leading environmental company incorporates OpenSkies distributed computing technology into networked software offerings
Cybernet Systems, a technology research and development firm focused on advancing the state of human-machine interaction, today announced that its OpenSkies(TM) software development kit (SDK) has been selected for use by Georeality Pty. Ltd. of Australia. Georeality is a leading environmental software developer specializing in geographical information systems, mapping and virtual reality techniques. Its advanced watershed management products will use the OpenSkies SDK to develop a network for intelligently routing dynamic data between distributed network servers.
"Georeality's software incorporates some of the most sophisticated imaging capabilities available today," noted Peter Holyland, CEO of Georeality. "As a result, we require an infrastructure that can handle the level of traffic generated by interactive online network applications. Thanks to Cybernet's OpenSkies and its ability to intelligently route data across a distributed network server system, an unlimited number of Georeality customers can receive 3D images and interactive communication simultaneously."
"Caching -- or the distribution of content across the Internet to reduce the load on a web server -- does not resolve the issue of the enormous bandwidth required by applications generating dynamic data," said Charles J. Cohen, Ph.D., vice president of Cybernet Systems. "Cybernet's OpenSkies reduces the amount of real-time traffic across the Internet backbone by selectively transferring only the information being requested or needed by the user. This can reduce redundancy and bandwidth load by as much as 90 percent."
Cybernet originally developed OpenSkies for use by the U.S. military. Since then, the technology has been selected as the underlying platform in diverse applications such as the interactive solar system educational software Astronomicon, and ENIGMA: RISING TIDE, a massive multiplayer online game by Tesseraction Games.
