Google Rolls Out Google Maps Mobile 2.03 for S60 With Street View  E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham
10 December 2008

Last week at Symbian Partner Event (San Fran) Google reps were on hand demonstrating the latest release of Google Maps Mobile which includes Street View imagery. At that time, no release date was given, however, just today google released Google Maps Mobile 2.03 (Supports Symbian S60)... enjoy!

This latest release has much of the great new functionality that was released in the PC/web client of Google maps, including tons of new imagery, enhanced search, and now, a ton of Street View Imagery - essentially, the amount of Street View imagery just doubled overnight!

If you haven't tried the new Gmaps and Gmaps functionality I urge you to check it out! On the web, Google maps now seems much faster and easier to use, with access to business and POI search at your fingertips. Most noteworthy though is the vast amount of new Street View imagery (the holders essentially doubled in volume recently) and pegman is now easily accessible, all you need to do is drag him on the map and view Street View imagery in full screen

Other new functionality in 2.03 includes:

  • My Location (beta) My Location shows your current location on the map, even if you don't have GPS. Learn more with our My Location video.
  • Interactive maps - Google Maps for mobile feels just like Google Maps on the desktop. Pan and zoom the map, and view satellite imagery, and even switch into Street View for a closer look.
  • Business listings - Search Google Maps for local businesses and points of interest. View store hours and reviews, then dial a business in one click. Thanks to My Location, you can find nearby businesses without even having to enter your current location.
  • Directions - Google Maps offers turn-by-turn driving directions - and thanks to My Location, you don't even have to enter your starting point. You can also get walking directions and find public transit routes in more than 100 cities around the world. Learn more with our public transit video.
  • Traffic Real-time traffic data helps you find the fastest route to your destination.
  • New! Street View - View street level imagery of addresses, businesses, and turns in directions in major cities throughout the United States, Australia, Japan, and parts of Europe. Learn more with our Street View video.
  • Favorites - Save your favorite places so that you can easily return to them on the map.
  • Enterprise - IT managers can install Google Maps on corporate BlackBerrys using our BlackBerry Enterprise Server options.

Google Maps Mobile 2.03 is available as a fast, painless OTA download, you can grab it by simply visiting the following URL , downloading OTA, and then loading the app... in total it wil take you about one minute!

Street View imagery enables users to "walk" down the street enjoying high-resolution imagery - as seen on Nokia N95 8GB
