Written by ESRI
13 May 2004
New Release Expands ArcIMS Geopublishing Capabilities Redlands, California-ESRI, the leader in geographic information system (GIS) technology, today announced that ArcIMS 9 is now shipping. In addition to expanded support for the ArcIMS core capabilities of serving maps, data, and metadata, ArcIMS 9 also introduces the new Data Delivery extension.

The ArcIMS Data Delivery extension makes distribution and sharing of data easy and open. This extension enables users to select, export, and deliver data in multiple formats and projections from a centralized Internet map server. It gives users and administrators the ability to publish data in 20 industry-standard spatial formats.

In addition, ArcIMS 9 includes support for Open GIS Consortium, Inc., Web Map Services. For additional information on ESRI's support for standards and interoperability, visit www.esri.com/standards

With the release of ArcIMS 9, ESRI expands platform options with support for the ArcIMS ArcMap Server on the Sun Solaris operating system. The ArcIMS ArcMap Server was first introduced with ArcIMS 4 and allows users to take advantage of the advanced data access and cartographic capabilities offered in ArcGIS Desktop by publishing map documents (MXD) on the Internet. ArcIMS 9 also includes extended support for the .NET development environment through a .NET link, an enhanced ActiveX connector, image and feature streaming, improved messaging for system administrators, and numerous quality and performance enhancements.

ArcIMS is the solution for delivering dynamic maps and GIS data and services via the Web. It provides a highly scalable framework for GIS Web publishing that meets the needs of corporate Intranets and demands of worldwide Internet access. Using ArcIMS, city and local governments, businesses, and other organizations worldwide publish, discover, and share geospatial information.

For more information, visit www.esri.com/arcims, contact your ESRI regional office, or call ESRI at 1-800-447-9778. Outside the United States, please contact your local ESRI distributor; see www.esri.com/international for a current distributor list.
