Rich applications link real-time maps to operational data, processes, and events
RESTON, Virginia – May 10, 2004 —Digital Harbor, the leading provider of software for building and running Composite Applications, today announced that it has joined ESRI's Business Partner Program, and will use ESRI’s MapObjects—Java software to add powerful geospatial capabilities.
Composite Applications allow users to combine data and functionality from many existing systems so that they can more easily see and act upon the complete picture of a situation. By incorporating mapping information through ESRI, Digital Harbor will be able to make existing information more valuable by putting it in the context of space. Users will now be able to correlate information contained in maps with other information that comes from operational databases, web services, business processes, or business events. Geospatial information is being applied in an increasing number of business domains, including Supply Chain/Logistics, Utilities Outage Management, Defense, Homeland Security, Sales, Customer Relationship Management, and Risk Management.
“Many internet applications show pictures of maps. But the maps don’t ‘talk’ to the other parts of the application. We’re taking a giant leap forward by allowing users to see real-time relationships between a location and other business information,” explains Austin Wells, Digital Harbor’s Vice President of Product Management. “After all, for most business problems, people must connect the dots among different types of information to determine who, what, when, and where, as well as how and why. ESRI provides the ‘where,’ and our composite application platform provides the relationships to help users understand the how and why.”
The ESRI Business Partner Program is a network of more than 1,600 domestic and international developers, consultants, data publishers, and resellers who, utilizing ESRI technology, provide solutions to meet the geographic information system (GIS) needs of every industry. Working together, ESRI and its business partners solve business problems with new software applications, data, and value-added services.
“ESRI mapping software is being embedded in an increasing number of applications,” said Andy Huntington, Developer Program Manager at ESRI. “What is interesting about Digital Harbor’s approach is that it does more than put dynamic mapping applications on the same screen as other data—it links them together in an integrated fashion so that geospatial information becomes an essential part of mainstream applications.”
