Sanoodi Announces SMap, a Free GPS Route Recording Application for Mobile Phones

BANGOR, Wales, Oct. 27 -- Today Sanoodi announced the launch of SMap, an integrated and free route recording and sharing application for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Nokia phones or PDAs that are equipped with GPS.
Based in Wales, UK, Sanoodi is a popular social website that lets its community record, upload and share outdoor activities on the web -- whether they are running, hiking, riding a bicycle or walking the dog.
SMap has been developed to work in conjunction with the new Sanoodi website. Routes can now be uploaded live from SMap to the Sanoodi website as they are being recorded. Unlike its competition, SMap can be used to record routes online (connected to the Internet) and offline, broadening its appeal and range of locations where it can be used. Sanoodi has developed a specific application for each mobile platform and is currently testing the Apple iPhone version of SMap, ready for release in December 2008. An Android version of SMap is due for release in Q1 2009.
"Sanoodi is leading the way in sharing routes online. The release of our new range of free applications for mobile devices allows our community to share their adventures direct from their phone just about anywhere in the world. Technology that was until very recently prohibitively expensive and not practicable for everyday use is now available for free at Sanoodi," said Paul Sandham, CMO of Sanoodi.
In addition to SMap, the new website has introduced a number of new features, including route editing and the ability to select the mapping background that best suits their route.
"With Sanoodi we see the opportunity to go well beyond building a simple web-based community," says Sanoodi CTO Rhys Jones. "The ability to use SMap to record and share your activities has now been extended beyond the confines of the web. SMap is the heart of the Sanoodi community and is the focus of our product development strategy throughout 2009."
