29th August 2008, Cambridge, UK. 1Spatial, Britain's leading provider of spatial data management software announces the opening of its first Australasian office, in Melbourne, Australia.
One of 1Spatial's main growth areas over the past three years has been in Australia, where, according to a study carried out in March 2008 by ACIL Tasman, the spatial information industry is a major contributor to the Australian economy, generating revenue of $1.37 billion in 2006-07.
The Cambridge-based company has been providing spatial data management software to state land departments, government organisations and utilities providers in Australia for the last three years through its partners, Open Spatial and more recently Geomatic Technologies. Over those three years the company has seen growth in revenues from the region of well over 50% per year and expects to maintain that growth rate in the coming three years.
With the spatial data market opening up in Australia, it is hoped that this new regional office will facilitate 1Spatial's continued growth. The direct presence in Australia will also serve as additional support for 1Spatial's indirect channel through Open Spatial and Geomatic Technologies.
Earlier this month 1Spatial announced the launch of the first phase of a new web based distributed data maintenance service for one of its most significant new clients, the Department of Sustainability and Environment, Victoria, won in conjunction with Australian partner Geomatic Technologies and eSpatial, a 1Spatial partner based in Ireland.
Another key customer in the region is PSMA Australia Limited, who is responsible for combing spatial data from Australia's governments to create national spatial information. 1Spatial's Radius technology is used by PSMA to ensure the accuracy of all the spatial data used across each of the individual states and territories of Australia, and to enable the integration of this data.
Dan Paull, CEO of PSMA, commented, "1Spatial has been a key partner in our quest to re-engineer the processes that deliver the nation's premium national spatial information datasets. The team's insight into spatial data maintenance workflow automation within a services architecture have been invaluable and we are delighted the Company is opening a local office to support our future development."
Duncan Guthrie, Managing Director of 1Spatial, commented, "I am delighted to be able to announce another exciting step in the evolution of 1Spatial. The opening of our office in Melbourne, Australia is a testament to our commitment to both partners and customers in the region. As European market leaders our expertise in the complexities of spatial data management mean we are well positioned to maintain our impressive growth rates and play a fundamental role in the burgeoning spatial data market in Australia."
