After a thorough evaluation of the available options, Bowling Green Municipal Utilities (BGMU), located in Kentucky, in the United States, has chosen the SIGim solution from GEOMAP GIS America to integrate all of its infrastructure management activities through a geographic information system (GIS).
Now that it has purchased the SIGim solution (Municipal inventory and information Management System), the city of Bowling Green, with a population of more than 60,000, will benefit from the integration of all the functions necessary for managing the infrastructure of a city. Based on AutoCAD Map, Autodesk MapGuide and GEOMAP GIS technology, SIGim will allow BGMU to build an information system that will bring together all the assets that the city wishes to manage in a spatial database. These graphic objects will have a bi-directional link to the databases containing the infrastructure data (waterworks and sewers systems). SIGim will allow users to create new spatial entities in an AutoCAD Map environment or on the web and enter their attribute data through the GEOMAP solution. Using real time synchronization, the information will be automatically updated in the different environments and published via the web interface (Autodesk MapGuide), thereby eliminating the need for duplicate data entry. “SIGim allows for information interoperability. Using an Internet or intranet access the different municipal services, elected officials and citizens can share, view, add and update information, no matter where they are located. Each participant can trace his area of interest and access the most up to date information in total confidentiality and in real time”, said Danick Venne, President and CEO of GEOMAP GIS America.
