Flight Management Systems’ FMS Moving Map is chosen by the Monterey County Sheriff’s office for their new Police Helicopter.
Chief Pilot Denis Greathead is pleased with the systems performance and is looking forward to the availability of additional GIS data to make the system even more powerful.
The Monterey County Sheriffs Department is flying a Robinson R-44 helicopter and required a cost effective mapping solution for their operations.
FMS has been producing GIS (Geographic Information Systems) based, GPS coupled, Moving Map Systems since 1999. Since inception, FMS has been using GIS data for their systems exclusively because they recognize the power and the increasing availability of data. Ortho Photo layers provide a daytime picture of the Target address so ground crews can be safely directed to positions.
GIS gives the user improved accuracy, flexibility and options unavailable with conventional scanned in paper maps. The ability to display underwater features, fire footprints, and collect data on the fly for later review and debriefing are just some of the advantages. Powerful options like linking addresses to phone numbers, occupant names, and existing threat level data, (or building your own database on the fly), are available. FMS runs in a familiar Windows environment and requires minimal training. Most FO’s are comfortable with the system by the end of their first shift. FMS is compatible with any Windows based software, such as Mobile Dispatch Terminals, Weight and Balance software, and even Word processing for custom checklists.
