Airborne 1 uses advanced LiDAR technology to create maps of areas affected by the floods

El Segundo, CA – July 18, 2008 – The Midwest recently suffered from the perfect storm of calamity: as rain fell, the levees broke, and residents in floodplain areas were evacuated, the Red Cross started running out of money.
The financial cost of flood damage in Iowa alone is more than 1 and a half billion dollars, and that tally is expected to rise. KOLD News of Tucson, Arizona, recently reported that according to Red Cross officials, a lack of funds is prompting the agency to borrow money to pay for disaster relief for Midwest flooding victims.
Enter Airborne 1. Airborne 1 uses advanced LiDAR technology to create maps of areas such as those affected by the floods. Flood maps in areas like the Midwest require updates to both the flood level used for the maps and to the elevation data used to delineate inundation areas after a major flood event.
Recognizing the area’s need for up-to-date maps, Airborne 1 is currently offering a discount to photogrammetry, surveying, and engineering firms in the flooded areas. In addition, Airborne 1 will donate a percentage of all money they make on impacted Midwest LiDAR projects to the Red Cross.
“Airborne 1 has a wealth of experience in floodplain mapping for FEMA, other government agencies, and private industry. We’re happy to help out by contributing to both the need for new mapping data in the Midwest and the Red Cross’s need for disaster relief funding,” said Todd Stennett, Airborne 1’s CEO.
