Pixxures Inc Awarded Bruce County, Ontario, Canada Parcel Rectification Project  E-mail
Written by Pixxures, Inc
28 May 2008
Arvada, Colorado, May 28, 2008 – Pixxures, Inc., a Division of XeDAR Corporation, a leading provider of critical infrastructure geospatial services including data acquisition, processing, image analysis, data storage and Web services, has been awarded a parcel rectification project by the County of Bruce in Ontario, Canada.

The project area consists of approximately 1,544 square miles of Bruce County, including over 528 linear miles of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay shoreline. Pixxures will rectify approximately 50,000 assessment parcel polygons in the County parcel dataset, together with 3,000 road allowance and right-of-way polygons. The County uses assessment parcel maps to support its internal planning needs as well as the needs of its lower tier municipalities, and has contracted Pixxures to correct its assessment parcel vector dataset for a visual best fit with their 2006 ortho-imagery. “The problem that Bruce County is experiencing is common. Their source parcel data contains varying positional and accuracy errors that cannot be fixed with a single shift solution,” said Wendy Luck, Senior Program Manager of Pixxures, Inc. “Pixxures’ LineWorks® Vector Alignment service was designed to address differential adjustments regardless of the direction or distance the adjacent parcels must move. Some parcels may require rotation and others will be locked in place so they don’t move. All of this differential movement is accommodated by LineWorks and incorporated into the solution.”

“Among the most appealing aspects of the LineWorks solution is the speed at which the work can be done. Of our alternatives, the next best proposal would have taken four months to complete, whereas the LineWorks solution can be completed in a matter of weeks,” said Justin Kraemer, GIS Coordinator of Bruce County. “Perhaps best of all is that the solution for the parcel dataset can be applied to derivative products, such as zoning and official plan mapping, park boundaries, etc. We would have had to adjust each of these manually.”

“We are pleased to be working with Bruce County on this project,” said Steve Jennings, V.P. of Sales and Marketing of Pixxures, Inc. “While most of our projects historically have been in the United States, we are now working in South America and continue to get international interest in this solution. Many private and public sector entities are making significant investments in imagery only to have to deal with inconsistent data layers. These discrepancies compromise the integrity of the information you provide and the benefits of your GIS. ”
