(May 12, 2008/Harrisburg, Pa.) GeoDecisions, an award-winning leader in the information technology industry specializing in geospatial solutions, recently completed Phase 2 of a Route Log Mile Filter (RLMF) project for the Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT).
The enhanced Web-based application provides MaineDOT with a custom straight-line diagram (SLD) toolset for obtaining and viewing relevant information about selected route segments, and displays the results in an easy-to-interpret format.
Working closely with MaineDOT personnel, GeoDecisions built new functionality on the existing RLMF application to provide graphic visualization and analysis capabilities based upon MaineDOT’s location referencing systems and business unit data. GeoDecisions adapted and customized its SLD solutions developed for other states to provide a solution that was implemented cost-effectively, quickly, and efficiently.
Christopher DiMeo, project manager for MaineDOT, commented, “The added SLD functionality has given our existing Route Log Mile application the graphical capabilities that really fulfill the vision of the application. It allows us to easily display multiple layers at the same milepoint, which makes it a powerful analysis tool, not only for design and project decisions, but for data quality control.” DiMeo adds, “What was once available only in tabular form is now presented to users graphically, and data errors can be better detected.”
New MaineDOT-specific features of the SLD application include enhanced labeling and data display tools, scaled business data display bars, and improved customized symbolization. Future enhancements to the RLMF application will add dynamic mapping tools, data entry, quality assurance and quality control functionality, and links to MaineDOT’s videolog system.
