McElhanney Consulting Services Ltd has acquired a new laser imaging LiDAR system.
The system is a Leica ALS50-II LiDAR with MPiA (Multiple Pulses in Air) which enables quicker and denser data collection as compared to older systems. LiDAR uses laser pulses (150 kHz) for distance measurement. When combined with GPS and an Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) for aircraft attitude, the processed data provides a Digital Elevation Model (DEM) point cloud.
Further classification of the point cloud generates information such as bare earth Digital Terrain Model (DTM) or tree and building models, for integration with CAD and GIS data. Rasterized (intensity) images can be created for visually effective 3D models and for use in LiDARgrammetry.
As Branch Manager, Mr. Dan Tresa says, "We anticipate the requirement for LiDAR 3D surface data to include projects where tree cover is substantial and where large areas or long corridors are needed. Along with our long standing ability to provide engineering and legal surveys, large format aerial photography, and photogrammetric mapping, we trust you will find McElhanney’s full service geomatics a beneficial choice."
