Reminder - National Surveyors Week, March 16-22, 2008  E-mail
Written by NSPS
19 March 2008
National Surveyors Week will be celebrated annually during the week in March that begins with the 3rd Sunday.

Surveyors Week represents the time each year when all surveyors have the opportunity to join in celebrating their profession. Through this celebration they promote public recognition of surveyors and surveying. The key to successfully attracting people’s attention is to recognize that they are interested in surveying
not so much as a profession, but in how the profession affects their lives. If your story is important to the community, then it will be important to the media.

The purpose of Surveyors Week is to bring visibility to the profession. During Surveyors Week, surveyors in industry, government, private practice and education promote public recognition of the profession. Governmental agencies, technical professional organizations and citizens groups are encouraged to join the celebration.

Surveyors Week is a perfect opportunity to introduce elementary, junior high and senior high school students to the surveying profession. Surveyors in many areas stage demonstrations of new surveying technologies or displays of ancient and modern surveying instruments to which students and the public are invited. The National Society of Professional Surveyor’s Trig-Star program-through which a
surveyor works with local high schools to promote a math competition in trigonometry-is a readymade activity that can be used in conjunction with Surveyors Week. Kits can be ordered from the NSPS Coordinator through the NSPS office.
