06 March 2008, Aylesbury: ESRI Holdings, a group of companies including ESRI (UK), ESRI Ireland and Helyx SIS, has acquired GeoWise Ltd, a leading provider of visualisation software for location-based statistical data, complementing the group’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) capabilities.
GeoWise Ltd’s visualisation software helps information analysts and GIS professionals create and manage interactive web applications that improve the management and visualisation of statistical data, and engage people in more informed geography-based decision-making.
GeoWise will remain an independent company within ESRI Holdings, with its own board of Directors and reporting structure, but the group companies will draw on each other’s strengths, experience and expertise.
InstantAtlas, GeoWise’s visualisation software suite, already integrates with ESRI’s product range, and further integration with ESRI’s ArcGIS platform is planned. InstantAtlas desktop and server software will continue to develop as an independent platform for the benefit of all customers.
Richard Waite, Managing Director, ESRI (UK), said: “The genuine synergy between our respective technologies leads to an enhanced offering. The GeoWise team has a strong blend of skills, extensive public sector experience and very intuitive software with an easy-to use-interface - making the company and its employees a strong addition to our group.
“Our long-standing business partner relationship with GeoWise means the integration into ESRI Holdings will be seamless, with both companies capitalising on a shared vision and expanded suite of geography-based technologies.”
Mike Forster, Managing Director, GeoWise, said: “We are delighted to become part of the ESRI Holdings group of companies. It is a great opportunity to take our technology to a wider audience while continuing to serve our existing customer base.
“ESRI is the clear market leader in GIS and, as a technology that is critical to every part of our lives, we are at the beginning of an exciting journey where our visualisation software will become a key part of enterprise-wide GIS adoption.”
