TerraSeer releases innovative software for space-time visualization and analysis  E-mail
Written by TerraSeer
21 April 2004
April 21, 2004, Ann Arbor, MI. TerraSeer® announces the release of its new Space-Time Intelligence System™ (STIS™) software. This exciting new tool will help researchers, analysts, and business managers view, interact with, and understand their geographic and temporal data so that they can make timely and informed decisions.
TerraSeer’s STIS provides seamless interactive mapping, graphing, and animations for intuitive exploratory data analysis.

More about the STIS

The TerraSeer Space-Time Intelligence System (STIS) is the first true space-time information system. A STIS is more than just a geographic information system (GIS). In STIS, time is an integral part of the data and the software interface. Thus, all views of the data can be animated, from maps to graphs to tables, giving the user a natural, intuitive understanding of data changes through space and time.

But, STIS does more than just animate your data, TerraSeer’s unique technology links all of the views of the data together to provide true interactive data exploration, and helps users make statistical inference about patterns in the data as well. For instance, users can simultaneously view the data in maps, statistical graphs, animated slideshows, and traditional data tables. When they select objects (such as states or counties) in one view, they will see the position of those objects light up on all other views of the data, instantly revealing hidden relationship patterns. They can also “brush” the maps and plots with a selection rectangle and the other plots will respond dynamically, updating the selection to match the changes in the linked view.

According to TerraSeer’s President and CEO, Nicholas Jacquez, “TerraSeer’s Space-Time Intelligence System is a revolutionary platform technology. It will add great value to the work of our current scientific users, and it will bring intuitive data understanding and decision making to mainstream GIS users and enhance the effectiveness of Business Intelligence applications.

The software is available to order on the TerraSeer website. Permanent individual licenses are $1,200, $900 for government or nonprofit use, and $600 for an academic license. Students can purchase a $75 renewable annual license for the software.

Users can preview a subset of the functionality (including linked windowing and animated maps) in a free demonstration version that is restricted to viewing data from the National Atlas of Cancer Mortality, the Cancer Atlas Viewer, available from the TerraSeer website as well. http://www.terraseer.com/products/atlasviewer.html

About TerraSeer

TerraSeer is a software and consulting firm that helps researchers and business-people extract meaning from data in its geographic and time context. TerraSeer was founded in January 2001 and sells four software programs: STIS, BoundarySeer, ClusterSeer, and SpaceStat. BoundarySeer is software for edge detection and geographic boundary analysis, ClusterSeer locates and evaluates disease clusters in space, time, and space and time, and SpaceStat provides methods for spatial econometric modeling and prediction. TerraSeer software is protected by U.S. patents 6,360,184 and 6,460,011, other patents pending.

In April, TerraSeer will offer two 2-day courses on geostatistical analysis. We will offer a course on using the new STIS software in June, 2004.
