This week we are pleased to celebrate Geographic Awareness. In 1987, U.S. President Ronald Reagan signed legislation establishing the third week in November as Geography Awareness Week (GAW). Every year since then, the National Geographic Society has promoted the importance of geography to the public and to schools throughout the United States and in Canada during Geography Awareness Week. During that time approximately 1.5 million students have participated in geography-related activities. Join us in celebrating Geography Awareness Week & GIS Day 2007.

Geoscience Australia provides a number of useful GIS and geography educational resournces. Their education and public event programs promote an awareness of geoscience and the work of their agency to all Australians. Down under they celebrate Earth Science Week 14-20 October 2007
GIS.com is an educational resource from industry leader, ESRI, designed to promote education and aawareness of GIS and ESRI's supporting resources.
GIS Day - Another GIS-led initiative, GISDay has grown tremendously and will be celebrated on November 14. Visit GISDay.com to find out about GlobalGIS educational initiatives and GIS Day activities... make sure to share your story with them!
My Wonderful World is a National Geographic-led campaign�backed by a coalition of national business and non-profit organizations�to expand geographic learning in school, at home, and in communities. We want to give kids the power of global knowledge. In the campaign's first year, more than 55,000 people signed up.
USGS Outreach The mission of the U.S. Geological Survey's Education Program is to educate and inform data users in the use and application of USGS products and services. Kids NGS - Always a favorite, the NGS has some fine resources designed specifically for kids and those that want to act like kids! Play games, watch videos, and explore other activities designed to promote geographic education.
SFWM Kids pages - This fine resource from Florida offers teacher and student learning aids including resournces and information about the everglades, teacher training aids, and even information on internships.
US Census kids corner - From the US Census Burean, learn about the Census bureau, get facts and figures about the States, have fun with quizes and more.
Geoscape Canada - explaining the landscapes, earth and water resources, and natural hazards of Canadian communities. Get detailed information and photos about all the landscapes and ecoregions in Canada.
NASA kids page - All kids love space and everything about space so it's no wonder that NASA has developed a fine resource for kids. Check out an image of the day, make a postcard, learn about the land, sea, and air and more.
Atlas of Canada - What better way to learn about the country then by visiting the mational atlas... information on Natural Hazards, Aboriginal Peoples, Reference Maps and more. View topo maps via the site's Toporama resournce.
FEMA for Kids - Herman, the spokescrab for the site teaches you how to be prepared for disasters and prevent disaster damage. You can also learn what causes disasters, play games, read stories and become a Disaster Action Kid.
Geography 4 kids map - An interactive mapping service and webmap designed to indroduce kids to online mapping and web services. Explore a number of layers and data products.
