RailsConf 2008 Seeking Participation from Rails Community Call for participation is now open  E-mail
Written by O'Reilly Media
29 October 2007
Sebastopol, CA, October 29, 2007--RailsConf 2008 is returning to the Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Oregon, from May 29-June 1, 2008. RailsConf, co-produced by Ruby Central, Inc. and O'Reilly Media, Inc., will gather over 1,600 attendees for four days of keynotes, sessions, tutorials, panels, and events to explore the latest Rails developments.

RailsConf is the largest gathering of Rails programmers, web developers, IT managers, entrepreneurs, and open source developers. An interactive meeting ground for the most innovative and successful Rails experts, will provide attendees with examples of business models, development paradigms, and design strategies to enable mainstream businesses and new arrivals to the Web and Rails to take advantage of this new generation of services and opportunities.

Over three years after its initial release, Rails continues to shake the foundations of the web development world. With an ever-growing host of stable applications in production, Rails 2.0 changes the focus from rapid change and innovation to stabilization and maturity. Anticipating a terrific line up for the 2008 event, conference chair Chad Fowler, Ruby Central, said:

"We're putting the 2008 program together and expect it will be as robust as last year's event but will encompass new areas of Rails development and more case histories."

The program committee is actively seeking sessions and tutorial proposals around some of the following topics:

-Time-saving developer productivity tips, tricks, and tools -Patterns and best practices for developing maintainable Rails applications -Complex domain modeling with Active Record -Rails development case studies -Heterogeneous systems integration -Real-world deployment and scaling -Making the most out of new Rails features -Gem and Plug-in highlights -Extending Rails

At RailsConf 2008, attendees can expect more than just in-depth tutorial and conference sessions. Included in the conference program will be Birds of a Feather (BoFs) evening sessions, which provide face-to-face informal meeting time for those interested in discussing the same topics, projects, and concepts.

In 2008, the RailsConf exhibit hall will expand into a larger space where leading companies will offer demonstrations and product information relating to Ruby on Rails programming. Exhibiting at the 2007 event were FiveRuns, Sun Microsystems, ThoughtWorks, GotThingsDone, Engine Yard, Adobe, CodeGear,  ELC Technologies, ActiveState, Amazon Web Services, Blue Box Group, Creopolis, Powell's Books, Rails For All, Inc., and Saviance Technologies Pvt.

The call for participation will be open until December 13, 2007. Early registration for RailsConf will open in February of 2008. Press registration will be open on that date.
