NAVTEQ, Chicago Field Museum Brings Leading Technology Companies Together to Celebrate Maps PDF Print E-mail
Written by NAVTEQ

NAVTEQ, in Partnership With the Chicago Field Museum, Brings Leading
Technology Companies Together to Celebrate Maps: Finding our Place in the
                                    World

Technology companies lend expertise to Maps exhibition

Chicago, IL – October 29, 2007 – The Field Museum opens the much anticipated
Maps: Finding our Place in the World today, where visitors will be immersed in
the rich and complex world of maps and mapmaking.  NAVTEQ Corporation (NYSE:
NVT), a leading global provider of digital maps for vehicle navigation and
location-based solutions (LBS), is the presenting sponsor of the exhibition
and has lent its expertise to displays on the modern and futuristic uses of
maps.  “Living with Maps” illustrates how modern digital maps are
increasingly fine-tuned to our personal lives, offering innovative solutions
to every day needs and activities far beyond guiding users from Point A to
Point B.

NAVTEQ has brought together several leading technology companies to tour
visitors through a hands-on experience of how maps are or will be integrated
in to our everyday life, including:
-- a mobile phone fitness tool, created by Bones in Motions, that records
and maps location, speed, distance and calories burned for walkers, runners
  and cyclists;
-- a real estate tool by Smarter Agent powered by Sprint, giving users
access to real estate and rental property information on their mobile
  device; and
-- AtlasCT’s innovative reLive! allows guests to capture pictures, and
write notes along a trip route, and seamlessly link them to their locations
(geo-tagging). Family and friends can then replay the trip on the website,
view the trip route, photos and notes on a map in their authentic
  locations.
Guests will also engage with a life-size interactive map wall developed by
Accenture Technology Labs, which allows multiple people to simultaneously
explore different areas of the world using a large, interactive touch screen.
The wall is comprised of six MutliSync LCD displays from NEC Display Solutions
of America.

“Maps takes visitors on the long and interesting journey that is the history
of maps and mapmaking, and offers a glimpse into the vast potential of map
usage in the future,” commented Judson Green, president and CEO, NAVTEQ.
“The collaboration between these leading technology companies has been
inspiring, and NAVTEQ is honored to supplement this amazing exhibit with
perspective on the countless ways that the modern mapping industry influences
everyday needs.”

Once used primarily by rulers, navigators, and other members of elite society,
maps have become a part of our daily lives – thanks in large part to new
technologies.  Maps: Finding Our Place in the World is a once-in-a-lifetime
opportunity to see more than 100 of the world’s greatest maps assembled in one
exhibition.  Organized by The Field Museum and The Newberry Library, Maps
features artifacts from both organizing institutions, including more than 20
rare maps from the Newberry’s world-famous collections, as well as maps from
over 60 lenders worldwide.
