Smart Data Strategies Implements DREAMaps Parcel Management Tools in Lea County, New Mexico PDF Print E-mail
Written by Smart Data Strategies
Friday, 05 October 2007
Franklin, TN—October 4, 2007 —Smart Data Strategies, Inc. (SDS), a leading provider of GIS software products and services announces today that it has delivered a countywide ESRI geodatabase and implemented the DREAMaps suite of Land Parcel Management tools for Lea County, New Mexico.

Lea County, located in the southeastern corner of the state, contains 45,000 parcels and is best known for the vital role it plays in the production of the nation’s energy resources.

SDS assessed Lea County’s current situation and created a “roadmap” that would give the county a first rate GIS program within months.  The project included cleaning up existing digital parcel data, scanning and digitizing tax maps, and performing parcel updates utilizing existing AutoCAD data.  A Parcel Identification Number (PIN) generation tool was created that automatically generates the Uniform Parcel Code (UPC) that meets New Mexico State mapping standards.  Once the data was cleaned up and converted into a geodatabase, the county had to ensure a maximum return on their investment.  Needing a system that would allow them to keep their data current, the county chose the SDS DREAMaps™ suite of Land Parcel Management tools.   DREAMaps Mapper™ is being used as an extension to ESRI’s ArcGIS to streamline parcel maintenance and ensure the integrity and currency of the data.  DREAMaps Analyst™ is being used to link the new GIS data to the existing database for assessment and overlay analysis.

Another goal of Lea County is to ensure its citizens have immediate access to the information.  The data is being hosted by SDS via www.eMapsPlus.com and is available to the public.  The site allows users to navigate the map, identify parcels, and perform various search functions as well as reporting and creating mail labels. Smart Data Strategies also serves as the data broker handling all data distribution inquiries. Currently, www.eMapsPlus.com receives over 1 million hits per week.

The project will be presented at the 2007 Southwest User Group (SWUG) conference which will be held October 30th through November 1st at the La Fonda Hotel in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
