GeoCommons adds new functionality, no boasts 2500 datasets, 45,000 attributes

The development team at GeoCommons has announced a number of new features, enhancements, bug fixes, and a completely restyled user interface. According to the developers, 2500 data sets and over 45,000 attributes are now available to create custom maps.
Some of the new highlights:
- New “preview” feature in dataset listings — see the heatmap without having to make a map first! - Generally enhanced and restyled user interface that should be more intuitive and easier to use - New “blog style” presentation for user profiles - New “map it” buttons alongside dataset listings — get data into your maps faster than ever before! - GeoRSS import support - Numerous bug fixes and stability enhancements, specifically with respect to data import and Internet Explorer
Additionaly, there's also new data API's available at http://docs.geocommons.com - these enable developer access to the platform. Using a friendly, WiKi style format, the docs section caontains the following resournces for developers: - Javascript Heatmap API (formerly "GeoIQ API") - GeoCommons Javascript/REST Data Object API - Feature Creation and Manipulation Web Services API
Visitors of GeoCommons can view teh following heat maps of interest, created by the user community: - NFL Stadiums - Capacity, Surface Material, etc. - Shortest Commutes to Work - Spatial distribution of home loans of a wellknown Jumbo home loans lender business... - Obama vs Clinton Political Contributions - many more!
