Innovative Point & Learn Technology Receives Patent  E-mail
Written by Intelligent Spatial Technologies, Inc. (iST)
21 August 2007
Orono ME – August 21, 2007 – Intelligent Spatial Technologies, Inc. (iST), a technology leader in Location-based Services for mobile users, has been granted its first patent for the iPointer™ Mobile Search and Content Delivery Platform.

According to iST’s CEO & Founder Chris Frank, “This new patent solidifies the iPointer's™ presence in the market as an innovative mobile local search and content delivery platform. It also affirms our position in enabling wireless operators and content providers to offer mobile local search solutions for cell phones.”

Technology Enables Two-Way Flow of Information

The iPointer™ is a location-based service platform that enables a broad suite of navigation, search, and social networking services including: maps and directions, friend finder, buddy tracking, geotagging, geoblogging, geocasting, proximity search, proximity alerts, interactive maps, and targeted advertising. These applications will run on most mobile communication devices with a GPS and a wireless data connection. All of these services benefit from the dynamic content retrieval and update capabilities of iST’s Web-based geospatial search engine and content delivery architecture. Add in a digital compass accessory and mobile users with the iPointer™ running can take advantage of iST’s patented pointing-based search algorithms to simply point at a building, landmark, or other point-of-interest to receive on-demand information such as photographs, promotions and audio descriptions.

In sum, the iPointer™ provides a single integrated platform for delivering next generation location-based services today.

The iPointer™ system is comprised of global positioning system (GPS) and Digital Compass technology integrated into a Premium Cell Phone, a wireless network, and iST’s geospatial database. This allows users to move at their own pace, pointing and learning at will. When users wish to identify a landmark, they point iPointer™’s hand-held device at it and press a button. The iPointer™ device receives coordinate signals from GPS satellites and orientation information from the digital magnetic compass to identify the user’s location and the device’s pointing angle. These coordinates are then sent over the wireless network to the database. iST’s geospatial database’s selection algorithms identify the selected landmark and send information back over the wireless network to be displayed in text, visuals and audio on the user’s device.

Pricing & Availability

iST charges for the creation of iPointer™’s geospatial database and installation of its iPointer™ system, then provides the hand-held user devices and support services for a monthly charge. iST will also install the iPointer™ system and train onsite personnel for those facilities that want to take ownership and operate iPointer™ as a proprietary system. For information on installation and service contract pricing contact iST’s sales office, (207) 866-6521, or visit the company’s website www.i-spatialtech.com
