Scott Harmon to help company capitalize on increasing demand in prototyping, architecture, geospatial and consumer/electronic arts areas
BURLINGTON, Mass., July 10 - Scott Harmon has joined Z Corporation as vice president of business development to help expand sales of the company's 3D printers into new markets.
Z Corporation makes the world's fastest 3D printers and the only ones that can print physical prototypes in multiple colors. The technology is fast becoming standard equipment for manufacturing companies seeking quick, affordable and vivid physical prototypes for concept modeling, functional testing, finite element analysis and casting applications. Harmon will help increase sales in manufacturing while developing the education, architecture, geospatial and consumer/electronic arts markets.
Harmon has held a variety of leadership positions in marketing and business development and most recently ran a $150 million division of Church & Dwight, a leading consumer goods company. Earlier, he developed partnerships and markets for Princeton Power Systems, a startup in the power conversion field, and helped an Internet service provider implement profitable "triple play" provisioning systems. He began his career as a company commander in the U.S. Army.
"I am fortunate to be joining an exciting company at a pivotal time," said Harmon. "3D data is proliferating in every industry from architecture to gaming, and Z Corporation 3D printers are uniquely able to transform that data into full-color physical objects. Since this company is at the forefront of speed, color, and affordability, it is perfectly positioned to capitalize on the growing awareness, demand and application range for 3D printing."
Harmon is focusing on four emerging markets:
Rapid Prototyping in Education: The need for mechanical engineers and designers trained in 3D design software is driving the need for 3D prototyping solutions from middle through graduate school. Z Corp. 3D printers deliver the industry's lowest cost per model and fastest print speed - characteristics ideally suited to educational environments with limited budgets and large class sizes.
Architecture: Z Corp. is already the 3D printing leader for architecture, enabling architects to build more accurate color models quickly and affordably. The expansion of the architecture market is closely tracking the increasingly rapid adoption of 3D design software.
Geospatial Solutions: 3D mapping data in consumer and professional/military applications is driving demand for 3D physical landscape models. Only Z Corp. 3D printers offer the color capability needed to overlay mapping, elevation, texture, and other 3D data onto physical models.
Consumer/electronic arts: Games, animation applications and youth-oriented design software are generating vast amounts of consumer 3D data in the form of avatars, characters and other imaginative creations. Z Corp.'s high-speed, low-cost color 3D printers are the clear choice for transforming these digital creations into colorful physical objects on a high-volume consumer scale.
Harmon holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering from the United States Military Academy at West Point. He will report to John M. Kawola, Z Corp.'s executive vice president of sales, marketing and business development.
