Sebastopol, CA, 25 June 2007--RailsConf Europe, taking place 17-19 September in Berlin, is being co-presented by Ruby Central, Inc. and O'Reilly Media, Inc. This three day event, held at the Maritim proArte Hotel, is dedicated entirely to Ruby on Rails. The Ruby on Rails development framework, only three years old, has gone from cult favorite to major player in the web development world. By every measure--feature richness, adoption, publications, developer reception--Rails is a phenomenon, and one that's here to stay. At the 2006 sold-out event, attendees convened from all over Europe and the world. Registration for the 2007 conference is currently open.
RailsConf Europe 2007 will bring together hundreds of Rails practitioners
for presentations, tutorials, and camaraderie. Conference attendees will include: Rails hackers, Rubyists, web developers, web-based entrepreneurs and IT managers. RailsConf Europe will provide the time and place to connect, contribute, and collaborate with the growing European Rails community and beyond. The conference will discuss how European users are applying the Rails framework in their projects and businesses--and how they are achieving financial success.
The first day of the conference will consist of hands-on tutorials that will inform and enlighten. Among the topics offered during Monday tutorials will be A Half-day of Behavior-driven Development on Rails, Scaling a Rails Application from the Bottom Up in Europe, and Rails GIS Hacks.
The schedule of speakers is growing daily and includes particularly creative experts, industry leaders, and under-the-radar innovators worldwide. Sessions will focus on successful business models, development paradigms, and design strategies to enable mainstream businesses and new arrivals to the Web 2.0 world to take advantage of this new generation of services and opportunities. Speakers and sessions are being added every day--here's just a sampling:
-Teaching Rails at a University, Carsten Bormann, TZI Uni Bremen -Building Webapps in Europe: Economy, Methodology and Tips, Nicholas Paton, Bloogk -Anchoring Trust: Rewriting DNS for the Semantic Network with Ruby and Rails, Eleanor McHugh, Games with Brains, Romek Szcizesmiak
Networking opportunities will be plentiful, particularly during evening events such as the Birds of a Feather (BOFs) sessions, during conference breaks, and while mingling in the exhibit hall. In addition, the Berlin Ruby User Group is hosting a Bratwurst on Rails dinner event for all RailsConf Europe. Although the exhibit hall is still taking shape, there is still room for last minute sponsors and exhibitors. Interested parties may contact Yvonne Romaine at O'Reilly (contact info listed below).

10 Awesome GIS and Mapping apps for the iPhone - I recall last year at the ESRI UC when an iPhone was on stage showing a prototype app (think ArcPad on iPhone). It was then that I realized the iPhone platform is going to be BIG in mapping and there's a ton of opportunity for developers.
