Service At Sea Sets Sail Bringing Mapping Technology to Conservation groups, K-12 Teachers

What do you get when you take a crew of 10-12 sailors comprised of teachers, students, and geo-technology professionals and set them off on to circumnavigate the earth? You get service At Sea - a Non-Profit organization bringing mapping technology to conservation groups and K-12 Teachers World-Wide. Drew Stephens, founder and director, sets sail today launching the first leg of a 4 year journey.
According to Drew, all apects of the journey will be documented and shared with K-12 teachers world-wide. The products will eventually be made available as downloadable units, live broadcasts, and other teaching aids.. all to be made available via the Internet. Stepehens will be working closely with ESRI and other corporate sponsors to help make this a reality.
A ceremonial launch is scheduled for 8:45 AM Friday, June 22, 2007 at San Diego's harbor at the Water's Edge. The crew will then set sail from Vancouver on the 88ft Copper Sky with a first stop in Sitka, Alaska.
Segment 1 of the journey will have 16 stops in total
