The Express Server Demonstration Site - raster imagery is easy to work with!  E-mail
Written by Glenn Letham (GISuser editor)
12 June 2007
Express Server provides a variety of different methods for Web application integration - including Javascript, Flash, and Ajax - right out of the box... now you can kick back in your chair and see for your self when you visit the Express Server Demonstation Site. The site tailors to the various needs of those wanting or needing to distribute or share imagery. The application answers questions by offering up a dynamic tour, showing off how simple it can be to integrate Express Server into existing workflows.

One of the cool features of Express Server is speed - that is, the speed of server and distributing imagery to your web apps. Of particular interest,  Express Server speeds up image delivery with ESRI ArcIMS. One demonstration set on the demo site shows just how fast. Did you know you can deliver your maps up to 25 times faster than you can with ArcIMS alone? This is shown in a live demonstration via the demo site (see image below). In a side-by-side comparisson users get to see a 100 MB GeoTIFF image (below left) served along side an  8GB MrSID file (below right) (160GB raw) served by ArcIMS with Express Server.

Sample applications included with Express Server make it easier for Web developers to combine datasets from any source so they can be viewed together anywhere. The image below shows a sample AJAX demonstration availble via the demo website... background imagery is being served via Express Server as a WMS layer, while the Iowa Environmental Mesonet provides the weather radar information for free, also via WMS.

Visualizing live data served up to demonstrate the speed and functionality of Express Server will give you a true feeling about what you can expect from Server 6.0. Instant online viewing, speed, flexibility, and interoperability are presented in a fun, user friendly demo application... users and would-be users will appreciate this effort.

Finally, the demonstration answers your questions.. lots of them. See just how Express Server can integrate with Oracle Spatial 10gR2 and how Express Server also takes advantage of the GMLJP2.

So what are the benefits of integrating Express Server into your workflows?

  • Satisfy image requests faster
  • Increase speed of deliver
  • no extra hardware or bandwidth is needed interoperate with existing image servers
  • Wms-enabled clients can integrate express server image repositories with WMS-compliant geospatial datastores anywhere in the world
  • More users can view your geospatial data
  • Interoperable with proprietary apps such as ESRIs ArcMap
  • Interoperable with apps supporting open stds such as OGC and WMS
  • Delivers imagery to any device over any connection

  • view your maps up to 25x faster

  • Support for GML – enables addition of metadata to your jpeg 2000 imagery

  • Loads of sample code is provided to get you up and running... fast

  • Delivering a better user experience

  • natively serve MrSID and JPEG 2000 imagery stored in a DB - that's right... stored in a database!
