Leica Geosystems introduces Leica ALS Corridor Mapper LIDAR System  E-mail

Leica Geosystems introduces Leica ALS Corridor Mapper LIDAR System - Fulfilling Production-based Instrument Needs for Broad Range of Users

Norcross, May 7, 2007 -  Leica Geosystems announces the introduction of a new airborne LIDAR system designed specifically for corridor mapping and other large-scale mapping applications.  The new system, called the Leica ALS Corridor Mapper, takes advantage of key technologies from Leica Geosystems' industry-leading Leica ALS-series Airborne Laser Scanner systems to satisfy the needs of the lower-altitude LIDAR mapping market segment.

Corridor mapping has been emerging as a significant new segment within the LIDAR data acquisition market.  Until now, service providers in this segment had to either buy limited performance systems or purchase a full-capability system such as the Leica ALS50-II.  Limited performance systems lack the capabilities of the new Leica ALS Corridor Mapper as well as Leica Geosystems' worldwide support network.  Additionally, they cannot be upgraded for other missions.  On the other hand, purchasing a full-capability system left customers paying for high-altitude performance they may not need.

The ALS Corridor Mapper is an ideal solution for both new entrants and experienced firms needing a production instrument.  It satisfies all of their performance needs: High point density and high accuracy all the way to 1000 m AGL. while keeping acquisition costs in line with their needs.  In addition to being a solid investment by itself, the Leica ALS Corridor Mapper can also be enhanced over time, since it is engineered to allow incorporation of the latest MPiA (Multiple Pulses in Air) technology, and can also be upgraded to full Leica ALS50-II specifications.  "All these features add up to a system with a long, productive lifetime for the user," says Ron Roth, Product Manager for Airborne LIDAR at Leica Geosystems' Airborne Sensors Business Unit.
