NAVTEQ to Exhibit as Gold Sponsor at 2007 JavaOne(SM) Conference
CHICAGO, May 4 NAVTEQ (NYSE:NVT) , a leading global provider of digital map data for vehicle navigation and location-based solutions (LBS), is continuing to extend its reach to a variety of developer communities by exhibiting as a Gold Sponsor at the upcoming 2007 JavaOne conference. NAVTEQ recognizes JavaOne as yet another opportunity to tap into a growing segment of LBS developers. In the 2007 NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge(R) -- the wireless industry's premier annual program for developing the next generation of LBS -- there was strong representation of North American semifinalists using Java(TM) software to create their solutions.
"Over the last year, we've seen an increase in the creation of Java software-based deployment-ready applications, solutions and content," said Marc Naddell, Vice President, Partner and Developer Program, NAVTEQ. "This trend, along with the flood of new devices supporting embedded GPS, is causing the market for commercial applications to accelerate. NAVTEQ has the resources, channels and business relationships that developers need to advance their LBS knowledge and opportunities quickly and easily."
This development is not surprising given that, according to an Evans Data Corporation study conducted in the fall of 2006, 31 percent of respondents indicated they used Java software to code their LBS-supported applications.
Developers will have the opportunity to meet with NAVTEQ at the 2007 JavaOne conference, May 8-11, at the Moscone Center, San Francisco, CA, Booth #918. NAVTEQ will be featuring a selection of innovative mapping products including NAVTEQ Discover Cities(TM) -- a unique bundle of local information for today's urban pedestrians, and NAVTEQ Traffic Mobile(TM) -- real-time traffic data for mobile devices. NAVTEQ will also be exhibiting its dynamic online resource, the NAVTEQ Network for Developers(TM) site, which helps developers gain access to the tools, people and support needed to accelerate the development of their LBS applications.
NAVTEQ will also be hosting some of the winners and semifinalists of past LBS Challenges including the 2007 Grand Prize winner, ComVu Media, and semifinalists Intelligent Spatial, loopt and w-PlanIT, all of whom will showcase their next-generation applications. Leading geospatial platform providers Autodesk and deCarta will be demonstrating their developer tools and applications.
In addition to its exhibit space, NAVTEQ will deliver two presentations at the JavaOne conference -- a technical session, "Developing Web 2.0 Mapping Applications" and a session in the Presentation Theater, "The Emergence of Location in Wireless."
"NAVTEQ is excited to be an integral part of the 2007 JavaOne conference," said Naddell. "The opportunities for developers of LBS right now are enormous, and JavaOne represents an expanding developer base that we're excited to reach."
First launched in 2003, the NAVTEQ Global LBS Challenge is focused on driving the development and visibility of innovative navigation solutions for wireless devices. From wireless business applications to sports, travel and security, integrating the accuracy and richness of NAVTEQ digital map data facilitates the timely evolution of the next wave of LBS. The 2007 Global LBS Challenge featured a prize pool valued at nearly $2M in cash and prizes.
