There's More to Where 2.0 than Powerpoint Presentations

O'Reilly Where 2.0 Conference May 29-30, 2007
Fairmont Hotel San Jose, California http://conferences.oreilly.com/where

It's a showcase for the geoweb. Google, Mapquest, Yahoo!, Garmin, Microsoft, and ESRI will all be sharing their latest news and views with you. We'll also hear from up and coming companies and thoughtleaders like Outside.in, Topix, Synthesis Studios, WeoGeo, Loopt, ULocate, NearbyNow, Pinspot, Skyhook, OGC and OSGEO.

Register now using code whr07eb7 and save 10% off registration fees. http://conferences.oreillynet.com/pub/w/56/register.html

Why Attend Where 2.0?

Not only do we have an impressive line up of sessions and speakers, but we've also packed as many events as we can into a two (and a half) day event. There's more to this conference than the presentations. For starters there's...

Ignite Where - Five Minute Talks for Everybody (Monday, May 28) Twenty slides, five minutes, fifteen seconds a slide. These rapid fire talks encompass everything from speed-dating business pitches to lightning fast web site launches and cool new hacks. Best of all you'll get to vote for your favorite. Ignite Where will kick off the conference on Monday evening. You can see previous Ignite talks at http://ignitenight.blip.tv. There's still time to sign up to make a presentation at Ignite Where. Sign up online at http://ignitenight.thirdeye.railsplayground.net/events/form/ignite_where

Launch Pad (Monday, May 28)

Monday evening at Ignite Where we'll also see geo-related launches from fatdoor, Dopplr, FortiusOne, and Swivel.

Where Fair (Tuesday, May 29)

It's a science fair on steroids. From open source mapping, transit, and a live heat-map for the room to collective intelligence geo-coding and mobile application sensing networks, the Where Fair showcases the most exciting location-aware tools, apps, and hardware that are emerging from garages and university labs. Meet the creators, discuss the technologies, and get new insight into groundbreaking technologies straight from the inventors.

Exhibit Hall Reception (Tuesday, May 29)

We showcase state-of-the-art location-based systems, apps, and services. It's a great chance to meet your peers, network with colleagues, check out your competition, and chat up our sponsors. Refreshments will be served.

Yahoo! Maps, Local, and Upcoming.org Eat-up and Mash-up Lunch (Wednesday, May 30) -- It wouldn't be much of a technology conference without free pizza, would it? This is your chance to eat up and meet up with the team behind Yahoo!'s Maps, Local and Upcoming.org APIs. A short presentation will be followed by pizza, informal demos, and Q&A. This is a great chance to learn more about the Yahoo! mapping APIs, and offer feedback to the Yahoo! team. Seating is limited and space fills up quickly. To reserve your slot, send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it with your name, address, and company name.

Google Developer Day (Thursday, May 31) An entire day on the Google campus for technical breakout sessions, food and fun! It doesn't get any better than this. The day after the conference you can meet the engineers and get your questions answered on everything from the latest features in the Google Maps API to developing advanced KML. You learn inside tips on everything from the Google Web Toolkit and GData to APIs, Google Gadgets and more. You can find out more and sign up for Google Developer Day at http://www.google.com/events/developerday/details.html

Birds of a Feather Sessions (Tuesday, May 29) These informal sessions take place following the scheduled presentations. Sign up to discuss topics of special interest and explore issues in depth with people who share your interests in the field. Visit the BOF page for more details or sign up to lead a BoF of your own. http://conferences.oreillynet.com/pub/w/56/bof.html

Some other fun things that'll be happening at Where 2.0 include: a BlueTooth sensor network, Twittervision for sharing your thoughts and photos, and Dash (http://dash.net/) will be adding people to their Beta.

Where 2.0 Speakers Will Map Out the Future of the GIS Industry Yes, you'll learn from informative speakers. Yes, you'll hear keynotes from industry leaders. And yes you'll have a chance to attend sessions that will point the way to a new direction for the geo-spatial industry. You'll experience two full days of keynotes, lightning talks, panel discussions, and demonstrations by the visionaries that are putting location based technology on the map. Program chair Brady Forrest is putting the final touches on the conference program. Check out all the sessions and speakers at http://conferences.oreillynet.com/pub/w/56/schedule.html

A special thank you to our sponsors: Google, Mapquest, ESRI, Autodesk, Garmin, deCarta, DigitalGlobe, fatdoor, Leica Geosystems, Microsoft Virtual Earth, Quova, Schmap, Skyhook Wireless, Tele Atlas, uLocate, and SwathViewer.
